Some houses give you an ocean view. This one gives you two. Both decks at The Big Blue look straight out to the ocean, and they are where the day begins and ends: coffee as the sun comes up over the water, dinner as it sets, the sea in front of you the whole time. Guests come for the house and end up living on the terraces. And for the late sleepers, blackout shades hold the morning off as long as they like.
The house takes its name and its spirit from The Big Blue, one of the most beloved and beautifully scenic ocean films of the 1980s. The most successful French film of the decade. Its owner is the son of one of the film's writers. Albufeira's gorgeous Atlantic view continually conjures images from the movie.
Brought back to life by a just completed multi-year renovation, The Big Blue is small by design and finished like a fine boutique hotel. It rises to four levels, with a bathroom on each and televisions throughout. A main bedroom and a comfortable second, each with a double bed, sleep four, well suited to a couple wanting extra room or two couples traveling together.
The kitchen is high-end and modern, with an induction stove and a large refrigerator, ready for a proper meal at home. A dishwasher, washing machine, and dryer handle the rest, and heating and cooling throughout keep the house comfortable from high summer into deep winter. Free Wi-Fi runs throughout.
Everything worth reaching is on foot. The beach sits a little over 100 meters away, by the steps and the well-known Albufeira beach elevator, and the old town, with its restaurants and bars, is about five minutes' walk. The Big Blue sits on one of the most prestigious streets in Albufeira, close to the action yet still quiet at night: a first class house in a first class location.
